Chişinău hockey club Dinamo won the Open Moldova Prime Minister Cup. Dinamo hammered the Brest-based team 7-1 in the final.
Unfortunately, Russia did not participate in the tournament as they refused to play on a substandard ice-hockey rink in Chişinău. The tournament was moved to a small rink in Chişinău after Tiraspol had
refused to host it - officially for ' technical reasons'.
With Russia absent, the Chişinău side topped not only the standings but also the goalscoring race. Dinamo captain Dumitru Caraseni scored 22 goals over the tournament. He set a few other aims after the tournament.
Dumitru Caraseni, HC Dinamo manager:
"We need to develop hockey in Moldova, to make it popular so that there are at least a few teams in each age group and so that we have our own championship".
The national championship is still far from reality, just as the plan of building a new ice-hockey rink where hockey matches could be held. With an ice-hockey rink, the level of hockey in Moldova would significantly increase.
