The third day of the European Wrestling Championship was quite fruitful for Moldova and brought our countries two medals. Natalia Budu and Ludmila Cristea got spots on the podium in Dortmund.
Cristea reached the finals in the 55 kg weight category but lost to Swedish Ida-Theres Karlsson-Nerell. It is her third silver medal. The 35-year-old athlete achieved the same result in 2006 and 2008.
Another Moldavian wrestler, Natalia Budu, won the European Championship bronze medal. She lost just one fight in the 51 kg category - to the future champion Yulia Blagina from Ukraine. In the fight for third place, Budu easily outwrestled Maria Yegorova (Belarus) 3-0 and won the bronze medal of the European Championship.
In the meanwhile, 16-year-old Moldavian wrestler Iulia Leorda lost her debut fight at the European Championship.
Moldova will be represented by just one female wrestler on the fourth day of the Championship, Maria Eșanu (63 kg).
The final stage of the Championship, Greco-Roman wrestling competitions, will last for the next two days. Our country will be represented by seven athletes in all weight categories.
