Moldova was defeated by Georgia in the final round of the European Championship. The final results of the Challenge Trophy-2009 tournament

The National Handball Team of Moldova did not reach the final of the European champiosnhip, organised among the small countries. At the tournament called Challenge Trophy, which took place in Chişinău, the Moldavian handball players were the second, being overrun by the similar team of Georgia.

It is curious that Moldova and Georgia met each other in the last match played within the group competition. Our opponents had already gathered 6 points, due to the victories managed in front of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The results of the tournament

The 1st round
Georgia-Moldova  41:23 (23:11)
Moldova-Armenia  46:15 (23:8)

The 2nd round
Moldova - Azerbaijan 36:28 (7:16)
Georgia - Armenia 44:19 (19:11)

The 3rd round
Azerbaijan - Armenia 33:16 (16:6)
Georgia - Moldova 38:34 (21:15)

Unfortunately, the reason Moldova gave up in front of Georgia, was the extra players on the field. Instead of scoring when the score was 6-4 or 6-5, our team was sent some balls into the posts. Till the 7th minute of the 2nd half, our players could not score at all.

Due to this victory, Georgia is already qualified in the final of the European competition, organised among the small countries. The Georgian players will have to face on the 23rd of January the similar team of Finland in Malta, in the final match played in the city Linz.
