Sheriff's live symbol Vazha Tarkhnishvili became a football record-breaker. The Georgia-born player with the Moldavian citizenship made the list of players with the longest careers with one team from the CIS or the Baltic States. He has played with Sheriff for over ten years!
Such home-birds like Tarkhnishvili are very rare in the former USSR football because the players in, say, Belarus or Moldova, are not paid too much and have to move to other counties in the search for good contracts. Over ten years spent with one club mean all the more because the club we are speaking about is not located in Moskow, St. Petersburg, Kyiv or Donetsk. Tarkhnishvili's second home is in Tiraspol.
Sheriff won the national title ten times and Tarkhnishvili was with the team all these times. The unchallenged Sheriff captain also was on the squad when it won seven National Cups.
Gori-born Vazha is already 39 but he is still as reliable and consistent. The fact that he has been named the best Moldavian Championship defender four times proves it. Vazha was awarded the last title just a while ago - in 2009.
