About a hundred of freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers representing six Moldavian schools participated in the 3rd Ghenadie Biriucov Memorial Tournament. The competitions brought together many leaders of the Moldova national wrestling team.
Moldavian State University of Physical Education and Sports graduate Marin Cazac took first place in the 96 kg weight category.
Marin Cazac, tournament winner:
"The main exam for us is the upcoming World Tournament where I need to take a high spot that could earn me a quota place in the London Olympics. Will it be difficult? Of course! That's why I need to train hard".
Iurie Malai took the top spot in the 84 kg weight category and proved that the Moldova championship title rightfully belongs to him.
The former participant of junior competitions, Donior Islamov, showed a pretty good performance in the 66 kg weight category. Donior started training harder to achieve new results in senior championships.
The competitors paid their respects to their former coach who had devoted many years of his life to the training of the rising generations.
Alexei Postolachi, Moldova's merited coach:
"Ghenadie Biriucov had worked as a coach for over 20 years. Over this period of time, he trained hundreds of athletes who wanted to penetrate the secrets of sports and wrestling".
Elena Biriucov, Ghenadie Biriucov's daughter:
