Before Epureanu, one million dollars for a Moldavian player was paid only by Zenith at the end of the last century to strengthen its ranks with Alexandru Curteian from Zimbru. Epureanu was born in September 1986 in the Moldovan town Cantemir. He began playing football for seven years under the guidance of his father, Ion, and impressed with his success. In 2003, the age of 16, Epureanu started up for Zimbru, and in the following year became a player in the main roster. Upon the expiration of the contract in the summer of 2004, Alexandru did not extend the agreement with the club from Chişinău, and decided to sign in with Sheriff. Interestingly, Sheriff and Zimbru failed to agree on the amount paid for Epureanu, and it was requested the MFF help to solve out the problem. With Sheriff, Epureanu twice became the National Champion and National Cup Winner, and won one Moldova Super Cup. In 2006 Epureanu became the best defender of the country and was called at the National Team for the first time. Since then, he performed 30 matches for the national Squad and scored two goals. - I am always happy to come to Moldova's national team games - said the football player in an interview for the UEFA.com site. - When I was young, I watched anxiously the games of our national team.
